The Ghana Education Service says outstanding 2023 Capitation Grant arrears have been transferred to District Education Directorate accounts for onward payment to public basic schools.
The money has therefore moved to the district level but has not yet been confirmed as received by individual schools.
In a 14 September directive to Regional Directors, GES instructed them to ensure the funds reach schools on or before the reopening of the first term of the 2026/27 academic year. The Service said the transfer is intended to allow school heads to operate when classes resume.
The Capitation Grant supports the operations of public basic schools. The GES communication reported by 3News and MyJoyOnline does not state the total amount released or how much each district or school is due to receive.
GES said the transfers to district accounts also include the Sports and Culture component for District Offices. Corresponding allocations for Regional Sports and Culture have been transferred separately to designated Regional Office accounts.
The Service says a team from its headquarters will visit the regions to monitor whether the money is transferred onward.
