The government is planning a pay incentive equal to 20% of basic salary for teachers and health workers who accept postings to districts designated as deprived or underserved.
President John Mahama announced the measure on 11 September during a Free Primary Healthcare durbar in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District in the Upper West Region.
He said the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission had been asked to identify the districts that would qualify and that the mapping process had already begun.
The incentive is not yet in effect. Mahama said it would start after the necessary approvals are completed. The government has not yet published the qualifying district list or a commencement date.
The 20% figure applies to basic salary, not total earnings or an across-the-board increase for public-sector workers.
