Ghana has signed two memoranda of understanding with Eni Ghana and Vitol Upstream Tano covering offshore blocks GH WB 3 and GH WB 8 in the Tano Basin.
Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor signed the memoranda for the government on 10 September, with executives of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation witnessing, according to statements from Eni and Vitol.
The two companies say the agreements cover about 2,100 square kilometres in water depths ranging from 750 to 2,800 metres. The blocks are close to established producing areas and existing petroleum infrastructure.
The memoranda are not final petroleum agreements. Eni and Vitol describe them as a step toward finalising those agreements.
The signing follows a memorandum of intent agreed with the government in 2025. Eni currently operates Ghana’s Offshore Cape Three Points project with a 44.4% interest, alongside Vitol with 35.6% and GNPC with 20%.
Neither company statement announces a discovery on the two new blocks or gives a date for completion of the final petroleum agreements.
